SAT and ACT tests

Update March 2015:  The SAT will change in format from March 2016 (so from the May session in HK).  Students graduating from FIS in summer 2016 will not be affected, but younger students will. The ACT will undergo some minor changes to its scoring system from Autumn 2015 but will essentially stay the same.

Some FIS students are finding the ACT generates better scores for them than the SAT, as it may be more aligned with the subject content in French Bac/IB. The ACT is currently accepted by all U.S. 4-year colleges.

If you can, try to get all of your SAT/ACT sittings out of the way in your 1ère/L6 year. Academic pressure, along with university applications, can be intense in Terminale/U6, and it can be very stressful to add SAT/ACT resits to that load.

Advice for students graduating from FIS summer 2016
If you need to retake the current SAT (not the new SAT), your last chance will really be November 2015, as the December session is too close to the US application deadlines. If you want to take/retake the ACT, you should do so in the September or October 2015 session. For registration for either, see the links below.

Advice for students graduating from FIS summer 2017
You will need to take the new version of the SAT, or the ACT. If you choose the SAT, your sittings are more limited (the new SAT starts May 2016 in HK). The ACT may be a better option (test format is not changing...more examples available for practice).

See the files below for more info. The 2nd "General Advice" file has advice on when to take the tests, how to prepare, how to register etc.
