Universities in Europe outside England and France (for instance in the Netherlands, Denmark and Scandinavia) now offer some excellent undergraduate (and postgraduate) degrees taught completely in English. An added advantage is that EU passport holders generally have the same fee status as local residents. These degrees present a fantastic opportunity to gain a respected degree in a genuinely international setting – and often in very attractive European cities. The very high price of study in the UK and the USA is making these options more and more popular.

Some typical examples of fee levels for these degrees are below (for EU passport holders).

Country                                                                                                 Tuition Fee

Scandinavia (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark)                                     Free

Germany                                                                                              Free at most public universities

Switzerland                                                                                           below 1500 euros/year

Netherlands                                                                                          2060 euros/year

Ireland (Republic)                                                                                  5766 euros/year
Spain                                                                                                   800-18,000 euros/year

Italy                                                                                                    3,800 – 18,000 euros/year

Residence:

Some EU unis will only allow EU fee status if the student has been ordinarily resident in the EU for 3 yrs before starting uni.

Some unis will waive this if student was born in EU and spent most of life there, or if student or parents are returning to EU after temporary study/employment.
